E-PORT : digital customs documents

E-Port is a predominantly web-based solution designed and developed by SeT and HuB Telematica S.c.a.r.l., in association with Elsag S.p.A. (which handled all security issues), to improve the management of road vehicles transiting through container terminal access gates in connection with customs import/export operations for containerised freight.

Applying information technology to the flow of documents between public and private organisations involved in the customs and operating process eliminates manual flows of physical documents. This speeds up the process of exchanging information between the various operators involved, as well as making it more secure, optimising the sequence of operations to perform pursuant to current legislation and reducing costs and management times.

The public entities involved are the Customs and Financial Police services, which use a web-based system, together with their private counterparts, or clearing agents and terminal operators, which use messaging software with logical connections to the rest of the portal.

E-port is an open solution designed for future integration with online Customs Service applications.
